Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh — The Lions Club of Dhaka Diligent organized a community welfare program in Nabinagar upazila combining the distribution of educational materials with free medical services.
The program was held on Friday afternoon at the premises of Gopalpur High School under the banner of “Gopalpur Book Fest 2026.” A total of 279 students from 11 educational institutions received free books and educational supplies.
According to the organizers, the recipients included students who secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in their respective classes from 2 high schools, 2 madrasas, 7 primary schools, and 2 kindergartens located in Gopalpur, Rejatpur, Sahebnagar, and Sadekpur villages. In addition, meritorious students of Gopalpur High School who achieved GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC examination, as well as underprivileged students from the science stream, were provided with scientific calculators.
On the same day, starting at 8:00 AM, a free medical camp was held at Gopalpur Uttar Government Primary School. More than 300 elderly individuals received free eye check-ups and diabetes screening services. Cataract patients were identified during the eye camp, and selected patients will be taken to Dhaka for free cataract surgery, organizers said.
Wheelchairs were also distributed among persons with disabilities, and sewing machines were provided to women to help them become self-reliant.
The event was presided over by Nitol Ahmed, Director of the Lions Club of Dhaka Diligent. Among those who spoke at the program were Ashab Ullah Dolon (MJF), Mohammad Ali, Headmaster of Gopalpur High School, Jalal Uddin Monir, former President of Nabinagar Press Club, Lion Samiul Muqtadir (MJF), Lion Khadijatul Ferdous Sumi, Lion Umme Salma Anu, Mohammad Shahidullah, and Samiul Islam.
The initiative highlights a strong commitment to supporting education and improving access to healthcare in rural communities.
